I met an older guy last week. Seemed like a great guy.
He was buying a boat from us. It was a real junker. Needed a full restoration. After hanging out, talking and just swapping stories he throws me a low ball offer.
I just laughed and told him he wasn’t buying this boat for that amount of money. We shoot the wind a few more minutes before he left. Then he tells me, well if your other guys(buyers) don’t work out, my offer still stands.
I emailed the older man three days later to tell him I sold it for asking price. He replies asking,
What’s it like to be a winner!? I’ve tried all my life to be one with very little success. Like a man once said; I’d much rather be lucky than smart. I think he’s right.
I have one comment on being fortunate or lucky. I think that people who have it don’t realize they have it but just think everyone is like them and they make their own luck like they do. It would be nice if it was universal but I don’t believe it is. You know that 10% of the world’s population controls 90% of the wealth. You can’t get that much out of balance without special favoritism to the few who are blessed beyond normal. It is what it is and nothing is going to change it.
